PJ grew up in New York City. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University in 1985.
After college, PJ worked as an auditor in the Emerging Companies practice of Arthur Andersen & Co., and was chief financial officer of Play and Learn Corporate Child Care, an innovative chain of corporate-sponsored day care centers in Washington, D.C. He was also plant superintendent for MascoTech, an auto parts manufacturer in Detroit, Michigan. Starting in 1994, PJ co-founded and was CEO of two Internet startups, both of which became part of publicly traded companies. The Internet Factory, a web design, development, and online marketing firm, was purchased by Bowne & Co. in 1997. In 2002, PJ worked with Rosamaria at Caballero Television, as CFO and executive vice president of distribution. The TV station group grew to 12 owned and operated TV stations in Texas and California, and the resulting national network, MasMusica TeVe Network, grew to dozens of affiliated stations in the Top 50 Hispanic market. Parts of the business were sold to Viacom in 2006, and PJ stayed on for a year with MTV Tr3s (Viacom's new broadcast network for young Latinos).
