FAQ For Prospective Customers of Green Irene
For Prospective Eco-Consultants
For Sustainable Contractors Network For Companies with a Product or Service to Offer our Clients Other
For Prospective Customers of Green Irene How do I schedule an appointment? Please visit our Appointment page. Please note we may not have a certified Green Irene Eco-Consultant in your area yet. We will let you know if that is the case and will keep you posted as we add a certified, trained Eco-Consultant to your city. Do I need to be home for a Green Home Makeover? How long does it take? Yes, you need to be home to meet with the Eco-Consultant. Generally a minimum of an hour for an apartment or small home and 90 minutes for a larger home, depending on how much you care to talk about the findings and other questions you may have about going green. Our standard consulting plan includes looking at things in a basement, like a hot water heater, or poking into an attic to see the insulation level. Of course, we are happy to exclude any areas of your home you don’t care to discuss. Remember we include a year of free follow-up consultation by email so questions that come up later will always be addressed at no additional cost. Our Services Brochure is available for download as a PDF (2 pages) Do I need to be home for an EZ Bulb Swap Out? How long does it take? Yes, you need to be home. Generally it takes less than 30 minutes to show you the various options available to you in your specific lighting fixtures. It is best not to delegate this to a cleaning lady or teenage child or even a mother-in-law because there are judgment calls to be made about the wattage, the color and the brightness of different energy efficient lighting options. If time is tight some of the bulbs that require extra time for specialized installation (i.e. on a tall ladder for a 13-foot ceiling light) can be delivered and installed at a later date when someone needs to be present, but you specifically don’t need to be. Am I obligated to buy anything as a result of a Green Home Makeover? For our Green Home Makeover we charge $99 for the visit and the personalized eco-consulting project. This includes the results in an action plan for you to green your home and lifestyle tailored to your specific situation as well as one year of follow-up email support. While most people do buy some additional products or services to help them implement suggestions from the action plan, there is no obligation to do so. Am I obligated to buy anything as a result of an EZ Bulb Swap Out? We charge $50 to schedule our visit, but we give you a credit of that $50 against any purchases of energy efficient bulbs you buy from us during the visit (min. order of $100). Many homes have 50 or more bulbs, which should be swapped for energy efficient equivalents (including spares). Can you give me a list of the specific products you may recommend during a Green Home Makeover or EZ Bulb Swap Out? We don’t list the specific brands and products on our web site. We felt there was a need to help people implement good, green ideas in their homes now. Our customers rely on their local Eco-Consultant because they want the benefits of a Green Home Makeover for their family, but don’t want to make going green a “hobby”. Will the Eco-Consultant have the Green Products with them? We offer hundreds of products so our Green Irene will not have all the products with them. Your Eco-Consultant will have a demo kit and may have more products in his/her car (though some bike or walk). Your Eco-Consultant will have detailed product sheets of all the products available. Your products will be shipped directly to your home, and installation, if necessary, should be arranged for a separate visit with the appropriate specialist. My Husband is pretty handy. Can he install the products I buy? We price installation separate from the product so you are always welcome to “do it yourself” or use a favored handyman. Can I pay by Credit Card? How can I pay? Yes, we accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover Card to schedule the appointment. At your home you are welcome to pay by credit card or check for any additional products you may want to order. What if I have to reschedule or cancel? We all live hectic lives and things do come up. We appreciate if you call or email us to reschedule your appointment at least a day in advance. If you don’t reschedule and we come over and you are not home at the agreed upon time, we reserve the right to keep your fee. Cancellations with full refunds are available until the close of business the prior day. Do you throw Green Parties like the old Tupperware Parties? Yes we do. Please contact us if you would like to host one in your home and invite some of your friends over to learn helpful ways to go green from your local Green Irene. You will be able to choose if you would like to earn a Green Irene gift card based on purchases made at the party or a check made out directly to your favorite environmental charity. Is the Eco-Consultant Insured? Green Irene LLC carries the appropriate business liability insurance. If you will need a copy of the cover sheet (for example, if your apartment building requires it), please let us know in advance so we can provide it by fax or email. Please keep in mind if you had an interior decorator or personal lawyer come to your home, would they have to give the building any paperwork in advance? Most likely not. We are consultants. Eco-Consultants. If there is any electrical or plumbing work that you decide to have done (i.e. to install motion sensors for lights to turn off when you leave a room), then that will be a separate visit with a licensed and insured electrician. Do you provide Green Home Makeovers for businesses? We don’t market them at this time. Generally, a person who is happy with the results of their Green Home Makeover may ask Green Irene to come into their small business to see what might be done. The skills in lighting and energy systems at offices are different than what our home Green Irene’s are trained in, however, there are many solutions that are applicable to a business setting. Contact us and we will be back in touch with you by phone or email.
For Prospective Eco Consultants What expertise do I need to qualify? Since this is a new field, we don’t expect you to have been an Eco-Consultant before. We train you (via web-based training) on all of our services and products, including the detailed Green Home Makeover Plan, which covers room by room improvements a homeowner can make to live a greener, healthier lifestyle. We want to bring on Green Irene’s who are passionate about living a green lifestyle, yet non-judgmental.
No, and as a result there are no Franchise Fees. Would I be the only Green Irene Eco Consultant in my town? Our goal is to help you become the Green Guru of your community. We want you to have a large enough territory that you can be as busy as you care to be, though we don’t want you driving long distances for appointments. More information is available on this in our Distributor Agreement, which you can review when you express interest in becoming a Green Irene. Yes, of course. You do not need an “office” to commute to since you visit with clients in their homes. Do I receive a salary and benefits? No. Green Irene’s are independent business people, not employees of Green Irene LLC. You are trained and certified by Green Irene and use our consulting materials and products. Green Irene LLC handles all appointment and billing fees of the client. You receive a check monthly based on collections from your clients for consulting and product sales. How can I get more information on becoming a Green Irene Eco-Consultant? Please visit http://www.BeAGreenIrene.com which is a site dedicated to prospective Eco-Consultants.

What is Global Warming? The phrase 'climate change' is becoming the preferred phrase instead of 'global warming' because it helps convey there are climate changes in addition to rising temperatures. The science of global warming is well understood. Certain gases, especially CO2, absorb solar radiation that would otherwise be dissipated back into space. Like a down comforter on your winter bed, these gases then radiate heat back to the earth. The more of these gases in the atmosphere, the more energy radiated back to earth. The higher the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the greater the amount of the sun’s energy that is trapped on earth. The levels of CO2 have risen from 280 parts per million in preindustrial times to 382 ppm today. While rising sea levels threaten our shorelines, increased storm surges and extreme wind events become matters of concern. Declining soil moisture will mean lost agricultural productivity and more frequent droughts, pests and forest fires. The impact on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. As part of our Green Home Makeover we offer to calculate your family's Carbon Footprint in order to show areas that can yield the greatest reductions in your “carbon footprint”. Does having a Green Home Makeover actually help reduce the impact of Global Warming? Implementing the solutions we recommend will save a measurable amount of energy, money, water and reduce CO2 emissions generated by your family (i.e. your Carbon Footprint). We also believe in Gandhi’s saying, “You must become the change you seek in the world," which means taking concrete steps now to lighten your impact on the Earth and lead a more sustainable life.
